De term tarantella groepeert een aantal verschillende volksdansen met als typische kenmerken een snel tempo, meestal in 6/8 maat en begeleid door tamboerijnen. De tarantella behoort tot de bekendste Italiaanse traditionele muziek. Andrew Pearce heeft de oorspronkelijke compositie opnieuw gearrangeerd voor een flexibele instrumentatie, maar de oorspronkelijke etnische instrumenten behouden, mocht de dirigent die willen gebruiken. Lle terme tarantella regroupe un nombre de plusieurs danses populaires, caractérisées par un tempo vif, en général en 6/8 et accompagnements de tambourines. La tarentelle est parmi les plus reconnues des musiques traditionnelles italiennes. Andrew Pearce a réarrangé la composition originale, mais gardé les instruments ethniques d'origine, au cas ou le conducteur voudrait les utiliser.
