Ordered by Elisa Hall in 1903 to Claude Debussy when he was working in the composition of Le Mer, the Rapsodie for Orchester et Saxophone was only partially completed in 1911. After the orchestration by Roger Ducasse in 1919, the work was debuted about 15 years later in Paris on 14 May of that year by Pierre Mayeur and the Societé Nationale de Musique Orchestra, under the direction of André Caplet.
