Homeward / Hjemad Edvard Grieg / Arr. John Brakstad

Homeward was written for piano in 1895 by Edvard Grieg and is from his seventh collection, Op. 62, in the famous series Lyric Pieces. Grieg had just stayed in Copenhagen (DK) for half a year after being sick and he had felt the lack of creativity. Coming home made him very good, and in Homeward you meet him fresh and rhythmically challenging. He uses also chord combinations that are quite new to this time. David Monrad Johansen says: Homeward gives a true expression to the cheering joy you feel when you realize that your journey really is heading for home.
