Ancient Ritual Elliot Del Borgo

This programmatic work depicts a primitive rite in sound. Cast in three sections, the piece uses contemporary harmonies and colorful percussion to display the moods and energies of a long-ago ceremony. This is the first addition to this series by the prominent American composer Elliot Del Borgo, and adds a new dimension. (3 minutes)

Ancient Ritual is in the key of A-flat in 4/4 meter with the quarter note getting 138 beats per minute. The tempo does slow down to 60 beats. There are many eighth notes and some four sixteenth note runs in the woodwinds. The first clarinet goes over the break, while the first trumpet range is to fourth space E. There are also some accidentals throughout. This title is in the Achievement Series. Each title in this series is a learning experience. A scale in addition to the arpeggio in the key of the tune is presented. Musical terms and expressions used in the tune are presented and explained to the student.
