Chorus of the witches from the Opera Macbeth

Giuseppe's opera 'Macbeth' was first performed in 1847 and is based on William Shakespeare's play with the smae name. The story is settled in Scotland in the middle of the 11th century. In the first act, in a wood, three groups of witches appear one after the other amid thunder and lightning. First they sing, 'Che faceste? Dite su!' and later in that act 'S'allontanarono!'. Both choruses became well known as Witches' Chorus. Dutch arranger Jos van de Braak transcribed the first one, 'Che faceste? Dite su!', for female choir and Symphonic Band.

The chorus 'Che faceste? Dite su!' from the opera Macbeth is sung at the very beginning of the opera. Three strings of witches are waiting for the generals Macbeth and Banquo to prophesy their futures: Macbeth will be king of Scotland.
