Solitary Prayer Marco Pütz

Solitary Prayer was written at the end of 2013 at the request of Dutch euphonium virtuoso Robbert Vos. He wrote to me that he would prefer a quiet, slow piece to complement his new CD programme and so I came up with the idea for Solitary Prayer. A deliberately simple theme is introduced first by the euphonium and later by the solo cornet/flugelhorn. Supplemented by a counterpoint in the euphonium, the now somewhat extended phrase leads into a first tutti. A further intervention by the soloist is followed by a second, larger tutti passage with broad ff brass chords before the piece, calmly ebbing away, heads towards its end in a peaceful atmosphere.
