De componist reist graag doorheen Europa met de trein. Sinds zijn jeugd
nog in de tijd van de stoomtreinen
heeft hij de trein als hobby. Tijdens een vacantie in Frankrijk in 1992, zag hij een klein treintje dat de Col de la Croix Haute tussen Grenoble en Sisteron beklom. De trein reed door diverse tunnels en kruiste ook wel eens de weg. Het wroette zich een weg naar de top en rolde nadien lustig langs de andere kant van de berg weer naar beneden. Het was net of het treintje in een ragtime ritme reed... zo ontstond de RAILROAD RAG.

The composer enjoys travelling around Europe by train. Trains have been his hobby since boyhood days
the days of steam engines. He saw a little train climbing the Col de la Croix Haute between Grenoble and Sisteron when on holiday in France in 1992. The train pops in and out of tunnels and occasionally crosses the road. It struggles to the summit and then rolls happily down the other side of the mountain. It seemed to be rolling along to a ragtime rhythm... which became RAILROAD RAG.

Le compositeur aime voyager à travers l'Europe en train. Depuis son enfance
au temps des trains à vapeur
il a une passion pour les trains. Lors de ses vacances en France en 1992, il voit un petit train qui monte vers le Col de la Croix Haute entre Grenoble et Sisteron. Le petit train passe à travers plusieurs tunnels et croise parfois la route. Il se hisse péniblement jusqu'au sommet et puis il descend allègrement de l'autre côté de la montagne. Le compositeur avait l'impression que le petit train roulait au rythme d'un ragtime... de là le RAILROAD RAG.
