Based on the theme O Come, O Come Emmanuel, this work begins with a bombastic percussion fanfare leading to an opening of varying meters and tempi. A tender flute and oboe feature brings out the musical theme only to build to the dramatic conclusion. A full compliment of percussion adds to the excitement of the work.
