Silent Night, Holy Night is the world's most famous Christmas carol and the epitome of Christmas tradition in the German-speaking world. On Christmas Eve 1818 Franz Xaver Gruber and Joseph Mohr performed the Christmas song Silent Night, Holy Night for the first time in the Schifferkirche St. Nikola in Oberndorf, near Salzburg.
