The poem describes the atmosphere of a dark evening in the autumn, going to bed longing for your loved one throughout the long, dark night. The arrangement should be played in a singing, legato style.

[NO]Arnulf Øverlands vakre høstdikt har blitt en mye brukt godnattsang til denne vakre folketonen som sannsynligvis stammer fra Hornindal. Arrangementet prøver å gjenskape både tonespråket til folketonen, men også lengselen og varheten i Øverlands ord. Arrangementet bør spilles i en sangbar stil, med flyt og varme i klangen.
