Colin Cowles composer / arranger

Colin Cowles (b.1940) is a contemporary English composer with over four hundred compositions to his name. He is perhaps best known for his Saxophone writing and his educational works which include many instrumental pieces, arrangements and tutor books. However, his prolific output includes a Ballet Symphony, concertos for viola and tenor saxophone, choral music, a song cycle, chamber music, film and television scores, music for brass, wind and big band as well as numerous miscellaneous compositions.



Colin's music is undeniably English and much of his work is influenced by the countryside and friends alike. Largely now retired from his compositional life, Colin lives on the beautiful Somerset Levels with Kathleen, his wife.



Much of his spare time is now spent indulging his two passions in life - Otto Messmer's 'Felix the Cat' (the world's first animated character attaining cult status) and restoring sub-standard gauge cinema projectors and films. There cannot be many people who can boast a six-seater cinema and small museum in their back garden!
