Gyuri Spies arranger

Gyuri Spies is a composer, arranger, songwriter and sound

engineer. He is active in the pop and jazz fields as well as in film

and tv-music.

He wrote many compositions in the jazz idiom, including for the

BRT Jazzorkest and many studio productions. He is also an

accomplished producer and sound engineer.

He works on a regular basis with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, for

which he also writes arrangements (for silent movie projects, etc...).

He is the sound engineer at BJO’s concerts and sometimes in the

recording studio.

He was one of the 11 arrangers on the album "Changing Faces"

(released in 2007), of singer David Linx with the Brussels Jazz

Orchestra.

He also wrote music and arrangements for theatre (the Nederlands

Theater in Ghent a.o.) and for pop artists such as Natalia, The

Scabs, The Radios, Hooverphonic, Lady Linn etc... Spies is an

accomplished composer of (non) commercial tunes and jingles. He

wrote the filmscore for several (Dutch- movies (such as Het Paard

van Sinterklaas, Suske & Wiske).

He co-wrote in 1987 for singer Liliane Saint-Pierre the song "Soldiers of Love", which represented Belgium in

the Eurovision song contest.

In 1992 Gyuri Spies won the SABAM Award for best jazz composition.

Since 1996 he teaches Arrangement and Recording Technique at the Conservatory of Ghent.
