*Poughkeepsie, New York, 5. September 1915, +Scittsdale, Arizona, 26. Juli 2002. Smith absolvierte die Military Academy in New York im Jahr 1933 und besuchte danach das Curtis Institute. Als Kornettist wirkte er in der Goldman Band und in der RCA Victor Band (1936 bis 1942) mit, zugleich gehörte er den Detroiter Symphonikern an. Aus der Reihe seiner Kompositionen ragt der Marsch "Town Crier" (Bandland 1960; Belwin Mills 1962) hervor.
