Gould Morton geb. in Richmond Hill, New York, 10. Dezember 1913,Orlando, Florida, 21. Februar 1996. Gould studierte am Institute of Musical Art und an der Universitätin New York Klavier bei Abby Whitesi de und Komposition bei Vincent Jones. Seit 1930 wirkte er als Pianist, Arrangeur, Komponist und Dirigent in verschiedenen Orchestern. Er gehörte dem Direktorium der American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers und der American Symphony Orchestra League an. In seinen Kompositionen suchte er Verbindungen zwischen Ernster Musik und dem Entertainment herzustellen. Gould erhielt 1995 den Pulitzer-Preis für sein Buch String Music.
