Camille Saint-Saëns, wrote his Third Symphony, while at the peak of his artistic abilities. During the same period he also wrote his Third Violin Concerto, the Danse Macabre and his world famous Carnival of Animals. This work bears the subtitle Organ Symphony because Saint-Saëns used the church organ as an orchestral instrument; but not always with a solo role. In this arrangement the role of the organ is taken over by the brass players of the orchestra.

Camille Saint-Saëns, en écrivant sa Troisième Symphonie, était au sommet de ses capacités artistiques. Durant la même période, il a également écrit son troisième Concerto pour violon, la Danse Macabre et son célèbre Carnaval des Animaux. L'uvre porte le sous-titre Symphonie de l'orgue parce que Saint-Saëns a utilisé l'orgue de l'église comme instrument d'orchestre; pas nécessairement avec un rôle solo. Dans cet arrangement, ce rôle est pris en charge par les cuivres de l'orchestre.
