*Morristown, New Jersey, 19. November 1951. An der Ohio State University studierte er Komposition bei Donald E. McGinnis und Euphonium bei Paul Droste. Danach unterrichtete er an verschiedenen Schulen und promovierte daneben 1981 an der Indiana University zum Dr. päd. Seit 1986 gehörte er als Band Director dem Lehrkörper der University of Minnesota an, 1991 wechelte er an die University of Utah.
