Er studierte an der Royal Academy of Music in London bei Lennox Berkeley sowie - aufgrund eines Stipendiums -1961/62 am elektronischen Studio des italienischen Rundfunks in Mailand bei Luigi Nono. Für sein kompositorisches Schaffen ist die Verknüpfung von Avantgarde- und Popularmusikformen bezeichnend, in diesem Bereich wird ihm hohes Ansehen gezollt.
