De Winter Joop geb. in Ankeveen, Niederlande, 14. Januar 1932. Nachdem Studium in Amsterdam trat de Winter 1955 in die Luftwaffenkapelle ein. Er lebte zeitweise in Deutschland und in Kanada und kehrte 1962 in die Niederlande zurück, wo er mehrere Zivilkapellendirigierte.
