Steven L. Rosenhaus composer / arranger

Steven L. Rosenhaus (b. 1952, Brooklyn, NY) is a composer, lyricist, arranger, conductor, author, educator, and performer. His concert music has been called “clever, deftly constructed and likable” by The New York Times, and Back Stage magazine has called his music and lyrics for the off-Broadway show Critic “sprightly, upbeat, and in the ballad repertory, simply lovely.” His works have been performed throughout the world by such musicians as pianist Laura Leon, violinist Florian Mayer, the Dresden Sinfonietta, the Ploiesti Symphony Orchestra (Romania), the New York Repertory Orchestra, the Meridian String Quartet, the U.S. Navy Band (Washington, DC), the U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band (Naples, Italy), and the ensemble of the Incontro Nazionale di Cornisti “Guelfo Nalli” (Supino, Italy).



Dr. Rosenhaus holds a Ph.D. from New York University where he serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Composition; he also holds M.A. and B.A. degrees from Queens College (CUNY). He has over 150 original works and arrangements in print with LudwigMasters Music Publications, Theodore Presser, Music-Print Productions, Hal Leonard, and others. Recordings of his music can be found on the Musical Tapestries, Richardson, Capstone, and MPP labels. Dr. Rosenhaus is a frequent guest conductor of service, professional, amateur, and educational groups including several U.S. military bands (U.S. Naval Academy Band, U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band, et al.).



Recent works include: Nine Feet of Brass (A Concerto for Trombone and Band), commissioned by Sacred Heart University Band and its director, trombonist Keith Johnston; Rescuing Psyche for flute and piano (for NYSMTA); Horns of Plenty (Cornucopie) for trumpet, 8 horns, double bass, and timpani; Accordances (Symphony No. 2) for orchestra; Variations on a Neapolitan Theme for band; and The Apian Way for piano.



Steven L. Rosenhaus is the author of the recently-released book The Concertgoer’s Guide to the Symphony Orchestra (The Music Gifts Company/LudwigMasters Music Publications) and is co-author with Allen Cohen of Writing Musical Theater (Palgrave Macmillan). Dr. Rosenhaus is an awardee of the 2010 Con Edison Composer Residency; he has received numerous awards and grants from ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, and other organizations.
